6: Who is your soul pet, and why?
A: Roxie, she was my first border collie. I got her as a present to myself after graduating from vet school. When visiting the litter, she was very persistent and pulled on my pant leg. Finally, I told the breeder that I would take her. They put collars on puppies when they are picked. I asked why they didn’t put one on her, and they said, “we know that puppy”. I knew I was in trouble. She grew to be the best, most comical dog I have ever had. She was with me and helped me through multiple life-changing events over the 13 years of her life. She ended up with a mass in her chest. The day that I had to euthanize her was absolutely the hardest day of my life, especially as a veterinarian.
